If the stress from your personal relationships is affecting your ability to achieve your goals, it’s time to develop a success mindset and get to the core problem. Having success in spite of stress from personal relationships requires getting to the real problem behind the stress so that you are responding differently and still able to achieve your highest goals.
First, examine the stress from your personal relationships. What is causing this stress? Is it something that can be resolved? If not, how can you manage the stress in a way that doesn’t affect your ability to achieve your goals?
It’s also important to get clear on what success looks like to you. Without this clarity, it will be difficult to develop a success mindset. Once you know what success looks like, commit to taking small steps each day that will get you closer to your goal.
Developing a success mindset is key to achieving your goals in spite of stress from personal relationships. By discovering the root of the problem and getting clear on what success looks like to you and taking small steps each day, you can overcome any obstacle in your path.
One of the main reasons we struggle with success in our relationships has to do with our programming or what we’ve been taught subconsciously. Our subconscious brain directs 90% of our behavior and if our internal programming is programmed to respond in a certain way when it comes to stressful relationships, it will affect your business and our ability to reach our goals. The thoughts, words, and actions of ourselves and the significant people in our lives from our past and present all have an impact on the behavior that we do today.
Recently, I worked with a successful business owner who is in the process of going through a divorce. The divorce is in the finalization stage and she has been struggling with the stress of it for over a year. Despite being in business for a number of years and being very good at what she does, it has impacted both her business and her personal relationships dramatically.
She reached out to me because she wants to get to a higher level in her business, has set big goals, but has felt stuck and she knows that what she is currently going through is a big part of the problem (but not the only problem).
She was struggling with her ability to lead confidently in her business, struggled with people-pleasing, and often overextended herself because of it. This led to anger, overwhelm, and frustration. She was responding to people close to her in a way that she didn’t want to. She didn’t know why or how to fix the problem. The following is an example of some of the steps we took to rapidly fix her problem.
Examining the stress: It’s important to examine the stress from your personal relationships.
If you’re currently facing stress from personal relationships, it’s important to get to the root of the problem so that you can develop a success mindset. Once you identify the source of the stress, you can start taking steps to address it.
By taking the time to understand the source of the stress, you can develop a plan to manage it in a way that doesn’t interfere with your business or, change the way the stress affects your ability to achieve your goals.
If we want to change the way we respond to stress in our personal relationships, we need to change our programming. This can be done through things like affirmations, visualizations, and other exercises that help to reprogram our subconscious minds.
If you are already doing all the things above and are still not reaching the levels that you want to reach, or not seeing lasting change, then it’s important to know that it is likely a deeper problem. There are 3 key steps that have to take place in order to change this internal “programming”.
- Identify the REAL problem. Ask yourself questions about how you are responding and reacting to things. Ask, how is that a problem to get to the real reason.
- Find out what caused the problem or where it first occurred. Understanding how our subconscious “learned” relationships is key here. When we are aware and can understand, we have the ability to change the behavior. When we respond differently in our personal relationships, it affects our decisions and our ability to see opportunities in our businesses as well.
- Fix the problem so that it doesn’t keep happening. This is where behavior change happens. What did you learn from this? How can you take what you learned and apply it to your personal and business relationships?
By taking the time to understand the source of the stress and how it’s impacting your success, you can fix it so that it doesn’t keep happening. In this way, you will respond differently to situations that would otherwise be stressful and set you back in achieving your goals.
What success looks like: Get clear on what success looks like to you.
After you have resolved the real problem and are aware of how your relationship responses are affecting your business, you can move to this step.
Success looks like different things to different people. For some, success might mean becoming wealthy, while others might define success as simply being happy and content. Whatever success looks like to you, it’s important to get clear on what that means for you specifically. Once you have a better understanding of what success looks like to you, you can begin taking steps to achieve it.
One way to get clear on what success looks like is to sit down and brainstorm your goals. What do you hope to achieve in the next year? In the next five years? What kind of lifestyle do you want to live? What will you see, hear and feel when you achieve this? Answering these questions can help give you a better idea of what success looks like for you and what you need to do to achieve it.
Taking small steps: Once you know what success looks like, commit to taking small steps each day that will get you closer to your goal.
Once you have a better understanding of success, it’s time to develop a success mindset by taking small steps each day to move closer to your goals. This means believing that success is possible and that you have the ability to achieve your goals and eliminating any beliefs that contradict your goal. It also means being willing to put in the work required to reach your goals. Remember, success is not overnight – it takes time, effort, and dedication to achieve.
Success is a result of taking small steps each day. When you have clarity about what success looks like for you, it’s easier to develop a success mindset and take action towards your goals. No matter what personal stressors you may be facing, commit to taking at least one small step every day that will get you closer to your goal. This could be something as simple as reading for 30 minutes if your goal is to become a well-rounded individual. Over time, these small steps will add up and you’ll be surprised at how quickly you achieve success in spite of any personal stressors.
By taking the time to understand and fix the source of stress in our personal relationships, we can free ourselves up to achieve success in other areas of our lives. When we get clear on what success looks like for us, we can develop a success mindset and take small steps each day to move closer to our goals. For my client that is going through a divorce that I mentioned in the beginning, the results were immediate and likely permanent. She reported that she felt more calm and clear and she isn’t triggered by things that used to bother her in the past. She was able to say no to things that didn’t line up with her higher goals.
This will clear her mind and allow her to focus more on what’s truly important to her and her goals, both personally and professionally.
No matter what personal stresses in our relationships we face, we can accomplish great things by simply taking one small step at a time to get to the REAL problem.
